Hot lunch programs at EKA

UPDATED: NEW LUNCH CREW MENU FOR SECONDARY STUDENTS

EKA currently has two vendors providing hot lunch at EKA:

For all grades K - 12: Lunch Crew Catering

The Lunch Crew Catering will be offering lunches to students in Kindergarten through twelfth grade. All lunches are nutritionally balanced and prepared daily. Students at the Sandhill and Community Lane campuses will be charged $2.50 and students at Whitney Mesa will be charged $4.00. Lunches require a 48 hour menu notice and must be ordered through the Lunch Crew Catering website. Note that at the time of the order, parents will be required to enter the student’s advisor.

For grades 7 - 12 only: Manhattan Pizza

Manhattan Pizza items can be ordered in the morning when students arrive during Block A, no later than 8:40 am. Late orders cannot be accepted.

Channel 8 News recently featured EKA in a news segment during the evening news broadcast. It was an exciting day as interviews were conducted of staff and students, and video recorded of the students as they were learning in their advisories. We appreciate Channel 8 News for helping us share our exciting story of providing excellent and personalized education to the learners in our community.

Congresswoman Titus visits EKA

A message from our Executive Director:

Yesterday's visit with Congresswoman Titus went very well. She was quite impressed with our educational style and spoke with a few of our students and two EKA graduates that happened to be on campus. After speaking with one student who was working on a nutrition project, the Congresswoman promised to send the student information on her new wellness bill. I received that information today and it was forwarded to the student's advisor. We spoke about the re-authorization of No Child Left Behind and the issues charter schools face as far as funding, testing and teacher certifications. We have invited her back to visit again to listen to some student presentations of learning. Hopefully, she will take us up on our offer.

I wanted to thank all the students at the Secondary campus for their manners and thoughtful questions. Though the Congresswoman's visit was short, I believe she saw the exceptional way Explore Knowledge Academy educates students, and it gave her some insight into charter schools that she did not have prior.

Golf Scramble at Rio Secco Golf Club

Explore Knowledge Academy (EKA) Charter School and Rio Secco Golf Club (home of the Butch Harmon School of Golf and the Wendy's Three Tour Challenge) is coming together on Sunday, August 8, 2010 for the 3^rd Annual Explore Knowledge Academy 4-Person Golf Scramble. EKA plans on using the money raised by the golf outing to help defray the cost of EKA's athletic programs. Cost for a foursome is $340 or a single person may sign up for $85. A shotgun start is scheduled at 1:30 P.M.

EKA is a project based K-12 public charter school comprised of three campuses. Early elementary (K-2) building is located on Community Lane, just off of Tropicana Avenue. Later elementary (3-6) building is located off of Sandhill Rd. near the corner of Tropicana Avenue. Secondary (7-12) building is located off Whitney Mesa Drive near Ramrod.

Some fun events at the golf outing include: longest drive, closest to the pin and putting challenge. Also your team may choose to purchase mulligans to use during the scramble. We are also presenting the opportunity to sponsor a golf hole. If interested, please contact Jeff Keyer (702-533-3432) or fill out the attached sheet. Golf shirts with the EKA logo will be available for purchase at this golf event. Food and beverages can be purchased in the clubhouse prior to your round or from the food and beverage cart during your round of play.
