First Tee of Southern Nevada

Golf Program

The Explore Knowledge Academy-First Tee of Southern Nevada Golf Program is designed to introduce students to the game of golf. The students do not need to have played previously nor have their own clubs (if students have experience playing golf and do have their own clubs they may bring them). The First Tee organization will provide clubs and PGA golf professional instruction at no cost to the parents. Students have to maintain passing grades and good behavior to participate in the program since it is an extra curricular activity. We plan to start our part of the program two weeks prior to the starting of the First Tee of Southern Nevada program so that Mr. Keyer and Mr. Takemoto have a chance to discuss golf etiquette, along with some rules/instruction as well. We plan to start on March 6th, 2009. The First Tee part of the program will start of March 19th, 2009. The first two weeks (March 6th & March 13th, both Friday's) of our program will take place at Wildhorse Golf Club (see map). Mr. Takemoto and Mr. Keyer will need parent assistance to drive students from EKA-Sandhill Building to Wildhorse Golf Club. We plan to leave the building by 3:45 p.m. and arrive at Wildhorse Golf Club at around 4:00 p.m. Each of these weeks, the one-day program will run from 4:00-5:30 p.m. Students will need to be picked up promptly at Wildhorse Golf Club at 5:30 p.m. The remaining weeks of the program which is the First Tee part, a bus will pick students up at the Sandhill Building at about 2:30 p.m. and transport them to Desert Rose Golf Course (see map). The program will run from 3:00-4:30 p.m. and parents will need to pick up their child promptly at 4:30 p.m. at Desert Rose Golf Course. This program is on Thursday's and will run from March 19-May 7 (on Thursday's only). There will be no class the week of April 6th due to Spring Break week.

The program is a great lead into our Explore Knowledge Academy Golf Team which is made up of 5th-8th Grade students. This team is limited to 15 students and made up of both boys and girls. The students are chosen for the team based on golf performance, academic grades and overall behavior. The golf team events will run during the months of April and May. There will be times when the golf event days may conflict with the First Tee of Southern Nevada program days and Mr. Takemoto and Mr. Keyer each attend one event because we have students both places. The permission slip will serve for the golf team as well if they are chosen. If your student is chosen to be on the golf team, we will schedule an after school parent meeting prior to the beginning of the event schedule. Since we do not have busing, parent drivers may be needed for events in addition to Mr. Keyer and Mr. Takemoto.

7th/8th Grade students from Whitney Mesa are encouraged to be part of the program, however, they need to be driven to the golf course where the First Tee program is being held (Desert Rose or Wildhorse- first two weeks) or driven to the Sandhill building on the Thursday's when the First Tee is providing bus transportation to Desert Rose Golf Course. They would need to be at the Sandhill by 2:15 p.m., the bus will leave by 2:30 p.m. Should parents want to drive their child to Desert Rose, they need to arrive by 3:00 p.m. at the course.

Sincerely,

Mr. Jeffery Keyer & Mr. Alan Takemoto
